Day 2: Karakorum, the Ancient Capital of Mongolia

  • The adventure begins and we go to Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia.
  • Visit to the museum of Karakorum, the ancient capital of Mongolia. After founding Mongolia, Genghis Khan wanted to create the world’s capital in the Orkhon Valley, but unfortunately he died before it could be built. Genghis Khan’s son Ugudei founded this city in 1235 in honor of his father.
  • Visit to Erdene-zuu Monastery. Abtai Khan, the 29th descendant of Genghis Khan, wanted to establish a large monastery but needed help choosing the right location. Thereupon, the 3rd Dalai Lama Sonam Gyatso advised him to build this monastery on the ruins of the ancient capital of Mongolia. Abtai Khan built Erdene-Zuu in 1586.

Day 3: Home of the ancestor of today’s horse and Mini Gobi

  • Our next destination is Khogno Khan Park, also known as Mini Gobi. This park offers a variety of landscapes including a lake, trees, mountains and 80 km of sand dunes.
  • We take a short walk along the dunes.
  • We arrive at Khustai National Park where we can observe the wild Przewalski’s horses, the ancestors of today’s horses. After settling into our Gem camp, we set off to observe the horses for a few hours. The best time to see these horses is between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM when they come down from the mountain to drink water.

Day 4: Terelj National Park

  • A journey to Gorkhi Terelj National Park, a beautiful green oasis outside the city gates. The park features rock formations shaped by erosion, mountainous terrain with lush pine trees, plains sprinkled with vibrant wildflowers and alpine asters, and tranquil rivers and lakes. We will stay in a comfortable ger camp for two nights in this park.
  • The next stop on our itinerary is the magnificent Turtle Rock, a uniquely shaped rock formation that strikingly resembles a turtle. We then head to Ariyaval Monastery where we can explore its rich history and immerse ourselves in its serene surroundings.
